2006 BPI launched

The Transparency International 2006 Bribe Payers Index (BPI) was launched yesterday.

 

Chairman of TI’s Chapter in Papua New Guinea (TI PNG), Mike Manning, has said that the 2006 BPI that ranks companies from emerging export powers such as India, China and Russia among the worst when it comes to bribing, is a good example that corruption is rampant everywhere.

Transparency International PNG (TI PNG) has called on the PNG Electoral Commission (PNGEC) to amend the election laws so that it makes it mandatory for candidates to be screened before their nominations are accepted.

Investigate Allegations

“The National Housing Corporation (NHC) has proper procedures for the allocation of housing and properties, and these procedures should apply equally to all Papua New Guineans. There should be no exceptions for politicians or their staff,” Transparency International (PNG) Chairman Mike Manning said.

 

Mr Manning’s comments come after reports of alleged political pressure on the NHC to allocate houses to certain politicians, their staff, and associates.
