Board Profiles

 

There are 15 Directors on the TI PNG Board. All have demonstrated high levels of integrity both professionally and personally, and a commitment to fighting corruption, promoting good governance, accountability and transparency for the good of PNG.

Peter J. Aitsi - TIPNG Chairman (2008)

Peter Aitsi is a Media Manager of some 15 years. He is currently the General Manager of PNGFM Ltd a commercial FM broadcaster operating PNG's two leading radio stations broadcasting throughout the country with an estimated daily audience of half a million listeners.

An active supporter of media freedom and community rights he has been involved with the PNG Media Council for well over 10 years serving initially as council secretary before being elected President a position he held for 7 years stepping down in 2007.

 

Out of media work he serves as a director of:

  • TIPNG (8 years)
  • City Pharmacy Group of companies (6yrs)
  • The Badili Club, recently been apointed to the board of Leadership PNG
  • And is a founding member of the Taurama Surf Club and founding President of the Surfing Association of PNG.

  • The Community Coalition Against Corruption

Career description: A committed individual with a proven ability to deliever successful start ups and out comes for the organisations he has led or is being involved with. He has established a reputation that is well regarded and has developed an active network of organisations and individuals.

Laurie was born on the 1st of October 1948 and is a Papua New Guinean citizen. He speaks English, Melanesian Tok Pisin, Roro (elementary)

Employment

He has a long career history spanning back to 1964 during which time he served in various capacities both here in PNG and Australia where he was born.

He has served in the Catholic Church in various capacities,Non-Government Organisations, The Catholic Bishops' Conference of Papua New Guinea and Solomon Islands as well as corporate and government organisations here in PNG and Australia apart from his early days engagement in Australia also in a number of capacities.

He is currently employed as the Program Manager, Community and Social Investment, with PNG Sustainable Development Program Limited

Paul M. Nindipa - TIPNG Treasurer (2004 - 2008)

Paul Nindipa is a Bachelor of Commerce graduate from the University of Otago, New Zealand. He is an Associate Member of the PNG Institute of Accountants (PNGIA). Mr Nindipa is the President and treasurer of the Badili Club of PNG and a member of the PNG Australia Friendship Association.

 

Mr Nindipa currently holds the position of Director for Guinn PKF.

He is also a director and treasurer of TIPNG since 2004.


Ian A. Tarutia MBE

 

Ian Alan Tarutia, MBE, FAICD, SA (Fin), MPNGID – Joint Chief Executive Officer NASFUND

Ian Tarutia is the Joint Chief Executive Officer of NASFUND. In other capacities he serves as Chairman of NASFUND Contributors Savings & Loan Society as well as a Director on the boards of Amalpack Ltd, Credit Corporation (PNG) Ltd, Associated Mills Ltd, Ramu Agri Industries Ltd (formerly known as Ramu Sugar), PNG Mama Graun Trust, Transparency International (PNG) Inc and PNG Institute of Directors. He is also the Immediate Past President of PNG Institute of Directors and Immediate Past President of Badili Club, a professional networking association. Ian is also on the Executive of the Port Moresby Chamber of Commerce & Industry. He holds a Business Economics degree from the University of Papua New Guinea and a Diploma in Economic Policy Analysis from the PNG National Research Institute. He is a Fellow of the Australian Institute of Company Directors and Senior Associate of the Financial Services Institute of Australasia.

 


Leon Buskens

Leon Buskens the Managing Director of Nambawan Super Ltd (NSL) formerly (POSF). He is a graduate of the University of Technology, PNG, where he studied a Bachelors of Commerce. He also completed a Masters Degree in Finance at the Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology.

 

Mr Buskens was the first person appointed on merit bases as POSF Managing Director, under the superannuation reform model. He sits on a number of corporate boards such as Brian Bell Ltd, SP Brewery,Credit Corporation Ltd and Alotau International Hotel.

He is an independent director of the Telikom (PNG) Board, and donates his fees to charity (POM City Mission).

Mr Busken is also a director for TIPNG, CDI Foundation Trust Fund, halivim Wantok Charity Fund and patron of UPNG Banking & Finance Students Association and the Corporate Touch Football Association.

He is also a member of the PNG Super Fund Association, The Badili Club-a professional network, ACID and Financial Services Institute of Australsia (Finsia).


Dr John Nonggorr

Professor John Nonggorr is a foundation board member and Director of TI PNG. He is a graduate of the University of Sydney, Australia, Post Graduate Legal Training Institute, PNG, University of London (UK), and University of PNG.

 

He has worked in PNG, Australia, Indonesia, Vanuatu, Solomon Islands and Fiji.

 

Professor Nonggorr specialises in university level teaching and research in constitutional law, indigenous laws, mining and natural resources law in PNG, PH.D. research on mining law and contracts in PNG. He has published books and articles on some of these topics.

 

Among other positions, Professor Nonggorr has tutored at the University of Sydney, UPNG, been the Dean of the Law School, UPNG, and a Legal Officer with the Office of the Solicitor General, Department of Justice (PNG).

 

At present he is self employed: Nonggorr & Associates.

He is alo a director to the NASFUND & IPBC Boards and the UPNG Alumnai Association.


Mel Togolo

Mel Togolo is a foundation board member of TI PNG. He is a graduate of the University of Papua New Guinea, University of Leeds (UK) and University of Hawaii (USA).

 

He works as General Manager of Corporate Affairs, for Placer Dome, one of the largest gold mining companies in the world.

 

Mr Togolo is on the board of Westpac Bank and NASFUND, the Council of the Institute of National Affairs, private sector research organisation and Jesus Centre Halfway House, a rehabilitation centre for street and homeless children.

 

He is the immediate past President of the Business Council of Papua New Guinea.


Orovu Vitaharo Sepoe

Dr Sepoe is one of the directors appointed during the TIPNG AGM this year. She is an academic at the University of Papua New Guinea having graduated with a (PhD) from the Univrsity of manchester, a Master of Arts Degree in Politics from the University of Warwick,UK and a Bachelor of Arts Degree with Honours (2nd Class-Upper Division) at UPNG.

Professionally she is affiliated with organisations such as

  • PNG Council of Women
  • Women in National Government Stretegy (WINGS) for change PNG
  • Development Alternatives with Women for a new Era (DAWN) Pacific Region
  • Associate of State Society & Governance in Melanesia project, Australia National University
  • The National Acedemic Association UPNG and British Graduate Society, PNG.

Her specialist field of expertise is teaching & Academic Research in:

  • Politics, Governance & Gender Development.
  • Policy Research & Consultancy in Politics, Governance, Gender & Development.
  • Civil Society & community outreach/network.

 

She also works with NGOs especially womens' organisations in the country, served on the Divine Word University council from 2001 - 2006 and is a resource person on gender issues to the Pacific Islands Forum Secretariet, suva Fiji.

She is the commissioner, Integrity of Political Parties and candidates Commission since 2001 and an advisor to the Electoral Support Program (Phase 2) PNG Electoral Commission and AusAID.

 


Richard Kassman


Judith Meara Day, LLB

Ms Day is a bacholar of Laws graduate from the University of Papua New Guinea. She also has triple certificates in nursing from the Papua Medical College and certificate in Development & Home Economics from the South Pacific Commission, Suva, Fiji.

 

She formerly ran her own law firm and more recently has been involved in Informal Sector Development with the Ministry of Community Development. She is a former director of the PNG Banking Corporation and the Rural Development Bank.

 

She is currently the Managing Director of Karukaru Enterprises Ltd and a director of Gulf Economic Development Authority and SGS PNG Limited. She is a member of the pannel of consultatnts to the Justice Advocacy Group. Ms Day is a member of the Board Audit & Compliance Committee. She was nominated and voted as a director of TIPNG for 2008.

 

 


Farther John M. Glynn

Father John Glynn is a Catholic priest who was born in Ireland and migrated to Australia in 1961. In 1963 he came to PNG as a teacher and returned to Australia for studies in 1975. Father John was ordained a priest in 1980 and gained PNG citizenship in 1989 and has worked as a priest and teacher, primarily in New Ireland, Manus, and in Port Moresby since 2001.

 

Fr John is Patron of the Youth Against Corruption Association. He was nominated and voted as a director to the TIPNG again in 2008.


Anne Kerepia

Anna Kerepia's affiliations have been with the Board, NVS Board, Community Development Scheme Advisory Committee and the Board of YWCA Port Moresby.

She is at present (2008) one of the directors on the TIPNG board.

ichael McWalters

Michael McWalter

 

Mick is a Petroleum Adviser with the Independent State of Papua New Guinea funded by the World Bank. Among the roles he plays are;

  • Director, Circum-Pacific Council for Energy and Mineral Resources,
  • Secretary, Asia Pacific Region,
  • American Association of Petroleum Geologists Board Member, PNG Section and a member of the Society of Petroleum Engineers.

 

 

Raymond Chow

 

Raymond is a bacholars graduate in Bussiness Accounting and Law from the University of Western Sydney, Australia. He is the Director for Internal Affairs Division of the Papua New Guinea Internal Revenue Commission.

Mr Chow is a member of the

  • Australian Society of Certified Practising Accountants
  • Institute of Internal Auditors
  • Information Systems Audit & Control Association

He is also on the board of

  • Transparency International since 2004 as a director
  • Member of the Board of Governors of the Ela Murray International School.
