There are 15 directors on the Board of TIPNG. The position is a non-remunerated position. The directors volunteer their time, expertise and resources to ensure the effective running of TIPNG. TIPNG Board of Directors Participate meaningfully in the organization’s events and other program activities.

PETER JOHN AITSI,MBE – CHAIRMAN
Experience & Expertise: Peter Aitsi is the Chief Executive Officer of Credit Corporation (PNG). He also served as Country Manager PNG for Newcrest Mining Ltd. He has extensive private sector experience at senior levels and these skills are further strengthened by his long term and ongoing involvement with important community organisations such as Transparency International PNG, Media Council of PNG, City Mission PNG, Badili Club, and Leadership PNG. In 2008 was awarded a MBE for services to the PNG Media Industry. He serves director of various entities including Steamships Trading Ltd, PNGFM Ltd and CPL Group.

MICHELLE HAU’OFA – SECRETARY
Experience & Expertise: Michelle has a private sector background with over 20-years of experience in property development & management and business development. She is a staunch advocate of corporate and individual social responsibility, and of good and transparent governance. Michelle has gained valuable experience in the public sector and community development while working for Dame Carol Kidu, former Leader of the Opposition and former Minister for Community Development.
Michelle is the Producer of ‘Senisim Pasin’ – a documentary on gender based violence in PNG (Sept 2015 release).

AKAE PA’ASIA BEACH – TREASURER
Experience & Expertise:
Akae has been an advisor/consultant for over 20 years with Big 4 chartered accounting experience in PNG, Brisbane and Gold Coast but since 2007 was a corporate consultant, consulting for some large corporate companies in their management team as well as CFO On-call, and the board in various industries, including clients listed on the stock exchange. In 2015, Akae started Beach Accounting & Advisory Ltd (BAA) to start investing into affordable products, cloud system software and tools to better service clients and offer affordable solutions for SMEs and large Corporate organisations. Akae focuses on partnerships and collaborations to increase accountability and compliance as well as add value to the businesses being assisted including being involved with boards of Transparency International (PNG) and Pom Chamber of Commerce. Akae also incorporated a social strategy in her corporate strategy to assist with unemployed youths and women and decided to set up BAA Foundation to focus on these social strategies to help the communities she operates in as well as her own Mortlock Islands in raising funds to cater for shipping services to her marginalised islands.
LAWRENCE STEPHENS, DIRECTOR
Experience & Expertise: Lawrence has worked in government, business, faith-based and non-government organizations in PNG since 1976. He was granted PNG Citizenship in 1997. His interests include sustainable community, organisational and social development, social and political advocacy, public and NGO governance, management and team leadership. He served as a member of the PNG Industries Assistance Board and the Minimum Wages Board (2000) and the boards of Dove Travel and Word Publishing. He is a current board member of Rural Airstrip Agency, Markham Culverts Ltd, PBF Agro-Business Ltd, Finance Board Catholic Bishops Conference, Finance Committee Archdiocese of Mt Hagen. Lawrence has extensive experience in most provinces of PNG and is currently the CEO of the Melanesian Trustee Services Limited.

SEINI FISI’IHOI – DIRECTOR
Experience & Expertise: Seini brings a structured perspective of systems, and pro-leadership development to the table. She holds a science degree from University of PNG and development certificates from University of Cambridge, Counterpart US and MIT. Her experience is complimented by private sector leadership programs and representation on regional and global platforms under the banners of Oil Search Limited, Heineken PNG (SP Brewery), Steamships and the Employers Federation of PNG. In her spare time she supports national causes, contributes to the Future Leaders Program for public servants and co-manages a private business specialised in bulk ice cube production and distribution in NCD. Seini currently oversees the human resource function of Steamships and its subsidiaries, and is affiliated to Transparency International PNG Inc. (2012), Global Women in Management (2014), Advancing PNG Women Leaders Network Inc. (2014) Leadership PNG Inc. (2014), Queens Young Leaders (2016), Royal Commonwealth Society (2017) and PNG Human Resource Institute (2019).

RICHARD KASSMAN, OBE – DIRECTOR
Experience & Expertise: Richard is one of the founding directors of Transparency International PNG. He has developed a career of 40 years in insurance & risk management, tourism and more recently in the petroleum sector. He has held managerial and Board roles in the private sector, State Owned Enterprises, professional bodies and civil society organizations. In sports, Richard served on the PNG Olympic Committee as the Chef de Mission for the 2015 Pacific Games in Port Moresby. He was awarded the Order of the British Empire (OBE) in recognition of his services to the business sector and the community. He is currently the Director for Corporate Affairs with Total Energy.

BRIAN ALOIS – DIRECTOR
Experience & Expertise: Brian has 25 years in the Construction, supervision and maintenance of roads and bridges. He is a civil engineer by profession and also has a Master’s qualification in Business Administration. He is presently the President of the PNG Institute of Engineers PNG and a board member of the Professional Engineers Registration Board. Brian got involved with TIPNG in 2011 when he volunteered to organize the Sir Anthony Siaguru Walk Against Corruption in Lae. Brian was instrumental in the overall planning, coordination and implementation of the Walk since Lae started hosting it.

BELINDA KANAU – DIRECTOR
Experience & Expertise: Belinda was a former TIPNG team member with the Forest Governance project. Developing an interest for logistics, operations and sales over the years, she worked in various administration and business development roles in the Private sector and SOE as Team Leader and Regional Manager including roles in other NGOs/non-profit organizations, joining Marie Stopes International as Operations Manager after leaving TIPNG and Logistician for International Red Cross Mission of PNG (ICRC) based in Port Moresby before joining Inchcape shipping Services. Belinda is currently based at Lae and looks after the Inchcape and Maersk Line Lae, Madang and Wewak customer base. Belinda is currently based in Madang and overseeing the Digicel PNG Madang operation.
PHILIP SAMAR – DIRECTOR
Experience & Expertise: Philip Samar was most recently the Managing Director of the Mineral Resources Authority of Papua New Guinea. Prior to joining the MRA in 2007, he started his public service career as a graduate mining engineer in 1997 and served for 22 years.As Managing Director of the MRA, he was responsible for overseeing the responsible administration and implementation of the mining legislation, mining safety act and the associated mineral policies. He was instrumental in facilitating the installation of the computerised tenement management system as part of a dedicated plan to strengthen the MRAs governance systems and processes, including the introduction and facilitation of the EITI protocols which the mining industry in PNG is an active participant.

MICHAEL MCWALTER, OL – DIRECTOR
Experience & Expertise: Michael McWalter is a technical specialist in petroleum industry regulation, administration, and institutional development with over 41-years’ experience of the oil and gas industry, predominantly in the Ministries and Agencies of newly-emerging oil and gas producing nations.
He initially came to PNG in 1976 for two years as a VSO teacher at Catholic Mission Fatima, Banz. He returned to PNG in the early 1980’s as a geologist working on many petroleum exploration wells throughout PNG, and was appointed as a senior petroleum geologist in the Geological Survey of Papua New Guinea in 1987. In 1990, he became the Director of the Petroleum Division of Dept. of Mining and Petroleum, and in 1997 he was appointed as the Adviser to the newly-formed Department of Petroleum and Energy under funding of the World Bank, and from 2006 remained as an Adviser to the Government albeit on a part-time basis until 2014.
Since 2004, he has frequently served as an oil and gas specialist to the World Bank, the Asian Development Bank and to USAID, and has worked variously in Papua New Guinea, Bangladesh, Sao Tome & Principe, Cambodia, Ghana, Turkmenistan, Uganda, Seychelles, Liberia and most recently in South Sudan, with their various and respective Government petroleum ministries and agencies. In recent years, up until July 2017, he advised Twinza Oil Ltd and Port Moresby Petroleum Co. Ltd. and consulted to several other entities on various petroleum matters. He was appointed as PNG Government and Commercial Adviser to the Managing Director of Oil Search Ltd on 1st August 2017.
He has a Bachelor degree and a Master degree specializing in Geology, and a Post Graduate Certificate in Physics Education from Corpus Christi College, University of Cambridge, England. He is a Certified Petroleum Geologist (CPG) of the American Association of Petroleum Geologists and a Fellow and Chartered Geologist (C. Geol) of the Geological Society of London.
As well as being a Director of the Board of the Transparency International – Papua New Guinea, Mr McWalter is also Vice President and a Director of the Circum-Pacific Council for Energy and Mineral Resources, a Board member of the Finance Board of the Catholic Bishop’s Conference of PNG and the Solomon Islands, and President of the Asia-Pacific Region of the American Association of Petroleum Geologists.
He is an advocate of good governance in the petroleum industry though the establishment of sound institutional management and good regulation and administration of the sector.

PAUL BARKER – DIRECTOR
Experience & Expertise: Paul Barker, from the UK, came to Papua New Guinea in January 1978 and was based in the Highlands for five years with the Primary Industry Department. He headed the economics, marketing and statistics Branch of the Primary Industry Dept until 1988, when appointed special economic sector adviser in the Prime Minister’s Dept., a post filled until mid-2004. He was technical adviser with the European Delegation in the Solomon Islands until January 2006, and then appointed Executive Director of the Institute of National Affairs, an independent policy think tank based in Port Moresby, which addresses a wide range of economic and social issues affecting the country (and manages CIMC, which facilitates government-private sector and civil society dialogue in PNG). He has been a director and in some cases chaired various State and civil society organisations in PNG, including National Cultural Commission, Higher Education Board, Research and Conservation Foundation and Business Council of PNG, Transparency International PNG, and a member of the EITI Multi-Stakeholder Group.

CHRISTOPHER ELPHICK – DIRECTOR
Experience & Expertise: Christopher is Executive Director of FairPrice Furniture and Electrical, a small PNG SME business. He is a member and Director of the Nasfund Contributors Savings and Loans Society Ltd (NCSL). Christopher is a founding member and Treasurer of the Young Professional Network of PNG Inc. He is an alumni of the United World College of South East Asia. Christopher holds a Bachelor of Science (BSc) in Business Management from the University of Surrey, with majors in Marketing and Management. Christopher is a graduate of the National Superannuation Fund (NASFUND) Trainee Director Program and an awardee of the PNG Institute of Directors’ Young Director of the Year award.

MARY UDU – DIRECTOR
Experience & Expertise: A teacher by profession, Mary’s love for teaching began in 1994. She was a teacher aide at the then St. Joseph’s International Catholic School before receiving an Australian scholarship to study primary education. Mary has taught at Port Moresby Grammar School, The Nonu Independent School and Joseph’s International Catholic College. Mary has experience in teaching children with special abilities and low literacy and numeracy skills. Mary also has a Master’s Degree in Educational Studies and served as a deputy principal at the St Josephs International Catholic College, Primary School section, the Registrar at Kopkop College in Port Moresby, technical coordinator for their school-based civic education project at TIPNG. Prior to leaving TIPNG, Mary was the Project Manager for the school-based civic education project. Mary is now the Principal of the primary school at the Kopkop College.

JEROME SESEGA – DIRECTOR
Experience & Expertise: Jerome is currently a Lawyer with Twivey Lawyers and practices as both a Barrister/ Litigator in the civil litigation space and as a Solicitor with regards to commercial dealings. He is an active member of youth-driven initiatives and has had a close association and been a part of initiatives in the leadership and advocacy space carried out by The Voice Inc., Equal Playing Field, Carteret Campaign and Kokoda Track Foundation. Whilst in grade 11, Jerome set up a Youth Against Corruption Association(YACA) for his High School, Port Moresby Grammar School. Jerome also attended a Mike Manning Youth Democracy camp in 2012 and returned a few years later as a Speaker on the topic “PNG Constitutional Law” at the camp. Jerome has represented PNG overseas as a Youth delegate and is passionate about contributing to the work TIPNG and other like-minded organizations in promoting transparency, good governance and conducive socio-economic environments for young Papua New Guineans to thrive in.
